| Fall Color and Winter Guard is open to Westfield High School 9-12 grade students (both boys and girls). Westfield High School has two competitive color guard ensembles; Fall Color Guard which is a section of the Marching Bulldog Band and Winter Guard. Fall Color Guard, which begins in August and ends in November (with preparation clinics during the summer months), rehearses and performs with the Marching Bulldogs during football games and competitions. Fall Color Guard compliments and accents the Marching Bulldogs with its colorful flags, weapons, and maneuvers. Auditions are not required for Fall Guard, however, to be a member of the Fall Guard, Band Camp is required. Fall Color Guard is under the direction of Music Director, Steven Panoff. More information about the Marching Bulldogs, Ensembles and Color Guard can be found on the Marching Bulldogs web page. Westfield's Winter Guard is an indoor color guard which competes in the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA). Winter guard season begins in November, with competitions beginning in February and running until the end of March/first part of April. During Winter Guard, members may use the same equipment and costumes as the Fall season, however skill levels are raised, drills are different and may be more intense and demanding than Fall Guard. Winter Guard performs in a gym to recorded music and props are frequently used to enhance and emphasize the program. Due to space constraints, Winter Guard is usually smaller in size than Fall Color Guard. All students, including veteran Guard members, are required to audition for a place on the Winter Guard. It is a requirement for students to have been a member of the Fall Guard to audition or participate in Winter Guard. Westfield Winter Guard is under the direction of Megan Peralta. |
